A Gentleman’s Guide to Companion Etiquette

Dating  ·   ·  6 min read

Summer boating what to expect travelling together

How to prepare, how to behave, and the mindset that makes every date exceptional.

It’s Simpler Than You Think

This page shouldn’t need to exist. The principles below are the same ones that apply to any date you’d invite someone on, whether she’s a colleague, someone you met at a party, or a companion you’ve booked through Mystique.

Treat her well and she’ll go out of her way to make your time together unforgettable. Treat her poorly and she’ll leave. It really is that straightforward.

That said, we know that first-time bookings can come with a touch of uncertainty. So here’s a clear, honest guide to getting it right. None of it is complicated. Most of it is common sense. All of it makes a real difference.

Before You Meet

Your companion will have spent real time preparing for your date: salon visits, wardrobe planning, skincare, the works. She does this because she wants to look and feel her best for you. The least you can do is return the favour.

Shower and groom. Freshly showered, clean-shaven or with well-kept facial hair. Clean nails. A light cologne is always appreciated, but don’t overdo it.

Dress for the occasion. If you’re heading to a fine restaurant, dress accordingly. If it’s a relaxed evening in, you can keep it smart-casual, but make an effort. She’ll notice, and she’ll appreciate it.

Have the basics sorted. Your booking, any payment arrangements, and the plan for the evening should already be confirmed with our team before you meet. There’s nothing less romantic than administrative conversations over cocktails.

First-Time Nerves Are Normal

If this is your first companion date, you might feel a little unsure of what to expect. That’s completely normal, and nothing to be embarrassed about. Our companions are genuinely warm, experienced women who are very good at making people feel comfortable.

You don’t need to plan every moment. You don’t need to be the most charming person in the room. You just need to show up, be kind, respectful, and be open to enjoying each other’s company. The rest will take care of itself.

The Gentlemen Who Come Back

The members who have the best ongoing relationships with their companions tend to share a few things in common. They’re consistent and reliable. They remember small details from previous conversations, as does she. They’re respectful of her time and her boundaries.

They treat every date as though it matters, because it does.

Over time, these small things build genuine rapport and real affection. That’s when the experience goes from wonderful to truly extraordinary. And that’s why many of our members have been with us for years.

If you’d like to request the same companion for future dates, just let our team know. We’re always happy to facilitate ongoing arrangements with someone you’ve connected with.

One Sentence to Remember

If you remember nothing else from this page, remember this: she’s a real person who has chosen to spend her time with you.

Treat her the way that deserves, and you’ll both have an exceptional experience. Every time.

DOs:

What makes a great date –

Be present. Put your phone away. Give her your attention. Ask her about herself. Listen to the answers. The best dates feel like conversations between two people who are genuinely interested in each other, because that’s exactly what they are.

Make her feel welcome. Open the door. Pull out the chair. Offer her a drink when she arrives. These small gestures set the tone for the entire evening. If that feels like hard work, we may not be the agency for you.

A thoughtful touch goes a long way. A gift isn’t expected, but it never goes unnoticed. Flowers, chocolates, a bottle of something she enjoys, even a little note. It doesn’t need to be expensive. It just shows you thought about her before she arrived. Even a note left where she will find it before you leave is a sweet, kind touch

Be yourself. You don’t need to perform. Our companions are warm, intelligent women who are very good at putting people at ease. If you’re a little nervous, that’s perfectly fine. Just be honest, be relaxed, and let the evening unfold naturally.

Treat her like a date, not a booking. This is the single most important piece of advice on this page. The gentlemen who have the best experiences are the ones who stop thinking about what they’ve paid, and start thinking about the woman sitting across from them. She’s not a commodity. She’s a person who has chosen to spend her evening with you. Honor that, and she’ll make sure you remember it.

Enjoy yourself. Try to relax and enjoy the time together. Your companion’s aim is to see you happy, so feel free to address things with her, ask questions politely, and share tasteful ideas. Connection takes two. Allow your companion to spoil you, as you spoil her. Mutual enjoyment is the ultimate goal.

Offer private feedback to your concierge. Your concierge is at your disposal throughout the meeting, and immediately after, to take your comments. Whether positive or not, politely sharing your impression of things is not a betrayal of the companion, but confidential feedback, so we can maintain our standards and ensure your future selections are always well-aligned. Our main aim is to see your happy too.

DON`Ts:

WHAT TO AVOID –

Don’t arrive drunk, or get drunk. A drink to settle the nerves is fine. Being visibly intoxicated when your companion arrives or throughout the evening is not ok. Keep things moderate throughout the evening. The best experiences are the ones you both remember clearly, and wake up from feeling fresh.

Don’t be rough or aggressive. This should go without saying. Any behavior that makes your companion feel unsafe or uncomfortable will end the date immediately, and your membership along with it. Security may even become involved. Be a gentleman.

Don’t try to “get your money’s worth.” If that phrase is in your head, you’ve already missed the point of companionship at this level. This isn’t a transaction with a measurable return. It’s time spent with a beautiful, interesting woman. Cool it. Enjoy it for what it is.

Don’t haggle, negotiate or mention fees. Fees are agreed in advance with our office. Raising money during the date is uncomfortable for everyone and entirely unnecessary. It’s bad form. Enjoy the date.

Don’t push boundaries. If your companion says no to something, that’s the end of the conversation. Our companions are entitled to excuse themselves at any point if they feel uncomfortable. With the calibre of members we welcome, this is exceptionally rare, but the principle is absolute.

Don’t pry into her personal life. She’ll share what she’s comfortable sharing. Don’t press for her real name, her address, her workplace, or her social media. Respect her privacy the way you’d want her to respect yours.

Don’t request contact outside the agency. Contact outside the agency, whether for money or not, is prohibited. Phone numbers, email addresses, social media – any contact whatsoever is prohibited. Requesting her details encourages her to breach her contract and eventually lose her position with us. Contact your concierge to arrange meetings. If you want a girlfriend, go get one. Our company is not a dating or marriage pool.
